About this event

About the Hike: Mount Moriah's summit is 4,049 feet. It is part of the Carter-Moriah Range in the White Mountains. We will take the Carter-Moriah trail, from Groham NH. The trail goes over Mount Surprise (a 2,194-footer with great views of its own) on its way to reach Moriah's summit. The summit is bare rock, above tree line, it offers incredible 360° views of the Presidential Range and the rest of the Carter-Moriah Range.

Hike Type: out and back Estimated Elevation Gain: 3250 Round Trip Distance: 9.1 miles Estimated Duration (with breaks/lunch/pics): 7 hours

Ideally, we can keep the group together during our hike. To accomplish this, it is important to make sure your fitness level matches the activity difficulty listed above. It would be unfair to expect the faster hikers to take frequent, long breaks for those who bit more than they could chew. As such, breaks before reaching the summit will be kept short.

Ideally meet at 8:15AM. We leave the trail head at 8:30AM sharp. Out of courtesy to everyone, please let me know if you are running late. If you decide not to join us, please let me know the night before or early morning. If you sign up at the very last minute, keep in mind that I might not be aware if I'm near or at the trailhead and there is no cell reception.

What to bring: the appropriate hiking gear, water, snacks, lunch, kindness and humor. What not to bring: politics, upsetting news items or anything that hinders the positive experience for everyone.

Hoping for good weather.

Same here, Frank. If possible, I will do this hike during the week to check out trail conditions before Saturday.

Hey guys. Mo and I checked out the trail today. As expected, there are wet muddy sections and bare wet rock, so you want to make sure your footwear is waterproof and has good traction. You will also need micro spikes, as there are lengthy sections of pure ice. Overall, it wasn't hard to do. So far weather looks like it's on our side for Saturday!

Thanks for the update. It is surprising that it is still this icy!
