Understanding Our Event Difficulty & Fitness Ratings
Every GO event carries a difficulty rating so you can pick adventures that match your fitness and experience. Ratings are a friendly guide, not a guarantee — terrain, weather, and group pace all play a part. When in doubt, message the host before you sign up; they're glad to help you find the right fit.
Easy
Short, gentle outings on flat or lightly rolling ground with little or no elevation gain and a relaxed pace. Great for newcomers, families, and anyone easing back into the outdoors. Typically a few miles or less.
Easy to Moderate
A bit more distance and some modest hills. You'll be active for a while but the pace stays comfortable with plenty of breaks. A good next step once a basic outing feels easy.
Moderate
Longer days with noticeable elevation gain and a steadier pace. A reasonable level of fitness is expected and you should be comfortable on uneven trails for several miles.
Moderate to Strenuous
Substantial distance and sustained climbing, sometimes over rough terrain. Good conditioning, sturdy footwear, and recent hiking experience will make the day far more enjoyable.
Strenuous
Demanding, full-day efforts with significant elevation gain, a brisk pace, and challenging terrain. Intended for fit, experienced participants who train regularly and are prepared for a long, hard day.
Very Strenuous
Our toughest outings — very long miles, big climbs, fast pace, and rugged or exposed terrain. Excellent fitness, solid backcountry experience, and the right gear are essential. Check in with the host about expectations before signing up.
Not sure where you fall on the scale? That's completely normal. Start a little easier than you think, talk with the host, and work your way up as your confidence grows.
