The trip report

Written by Twigs

A group of 5 started At Glen cliff Trail head to the summit of mt. Mooselaukee we started hiking around 930am. And hour into the hike 2 members decided to turn back as they were not feeling up to the difficulty of the trail. I then hiked solo for 90min trying to catch up with the other 2 members of our group. As I caught up to Bob he informed me that the last member was headed to the summit. We had crossed paths with him as we were crossing over the glades. Bob and I took a summit selfie, with freezing fog, 60+mph winds and below 20° wind chill. All and all it was a good day by all. We all made it back safe and sound.

Hikers can stay at my house near Franconia NH on Fri and or Sat nights if desired. Email me to RSVP or for directions.

Just a side note, ravine road is probably closed this time of the year. (100% after thought) However use the same address for your GPS, and there seems to be a parking lot about a half mile down the road. This will be adding 1.5 miles each way to the trip, making it more of a 10mi hike.... make sure you have a head lamp with you, as we maybe getting back to the cars in the dark.

According to the (closed) Moosilauke Ravine Lodge: Winter Access Road - Parking for hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing is available halfway up the access road in the designated spaces. Only head-in, angled parking is permitted, and others may be towed. Which is a tad confusing to me since Ravine Road is a long hard packed (but not paved road) that everyone parks along one side parallel to the road. I guess we shall find out!

There was a great suggestion from another GO member for an alternative route; Glencliff to Carriage Rd (approx. 7.5 miles), out and back, less miles than previous route and avoids the tedious extra 3 mile road walk. Glencliff is 800ft more in elevation gain so it will be more of a workout, but hopefully we finish sooner.
