About this event

Come enjoy the Upper Narrows (lake) in Winthrop, Maine (15 minutes West of Augusta) for an active weekend on the water and on the trail. This outing is not suited to the beginner kayaker, boater or swimmer. Our dock is great to catch sunset, morning coffee, jump off, swim off, as well as there is a small beach to lounge at, and a ramp to launch your own boat.  We'll explore our mile-long lake & cove checking out wildlife (Bald Eagles, Loons, Ducks, Turtles) and other lake-front homes. Contact Trip Leader if you don't have a kayak/SUP; along with your skill level and we'll check availability upon signing up.  We have an old boathouse that provides ample shade and protection from the elements in the event of a temporary rain shower. We'll also go for a hike on Saturday, to Mount Pisgah and climb up the Fire Tower for a view.

Pack out your own meals (Fri Dinner, Sat Breakfast, Sat Lunch & Side for Sat Pot Luck) and your own beverages in a cooler with ice. Those wishing to partake in take-out Pizza & Salad Fri eve can throw ten bucks cash towards it.  Downtown Winthrop is 1 mile away where you'll find a gas station, dunkin donuts, Hannaford, etc.  Saturday eve we'll provide BBQ Chicken, Burgers, Corn on Cob -- bring along a pot-luck side dish or salad; or your own meat/veggie protein to grill.  We do have brewed coffee Sat & Sun mornings, and I believe Roger will crank out a great breakfast Sunday morning before we head back out on the water, before you leave.

We have a fixed 1+ year old friendly Black Lab "Dillon" and are dog-friendly, and you're welcome to bring your own well-behaved pooch as long as s/he's socially trained, not a barker, not aggresive/breed, obviously pick up after them -- just contact Trip Leader with whom you're bringing.  Obviously your dog goes with you on your boat when we head out onto the lake, and s/he loves to swim - there's no fenced in yard to leave them behind.

We have 7 "spots" next to boathouse for sm/med sized tents right there next to the lake -- flat, dirt locations where you can set up a tent for the weekend.  We have a couple outlets to use for blow up mattress inflators, but please leave the cell phones in your car or tent with silenced ringers.  We now have running water, electricity, and a primitive toilet. Carpool if possible.

Baby Back Ribs sound AWESOME! FYI, we're trying to get all the rain OUT OF THE WAY before the weekend!

Hope so, this weather is ridiculous! Are we the Pacific Northwest now?! I can bring bacon again for Sunday morning. What's a good item for Potluck side dish? Raw green beans should keep, what I eat on the road sometimes. Open to ideas!

The Lake is 80+ Degrees -- Roger and I swam with our Black Lab out to the Island and back yesterday -- it's GORGEOUS! We're cleaning and clearing the Boathouse area for tenting and campfire and BBQ, etc. We'll have a full campsite. And we're dancing and praying to the Weather Gods every night to provide us "decent" weather, most of that weekend. We're all looking forward to some kayaking, swimming, hiking, campfires and down-time. Cheers Mates! Don

What's the address to campsite? I like to use Waze, Google maps will take me to Winthrop, and I do recall the area from attending the last 2 or 3 years. How about for the Newbies?

GREETINGS FROM WINTHROP! 57 Ashaloona Drive, Winthrop is the address of our home, that is occupied by tenants, and it has the only paved driveway, please do not park at the house, please do not knock on the tenants door - thanks. The DIRECTIONS to Chandlers Point and the Boathouse on Upper Narrows Pond remains the same in the description, once you turn onto Ashaloona Drive at the Winthrop Veterinarian Hospital on Route 202. See You Friday afternoon. Don & Roger (and Dillon, the black lab.)

I'm bringing Smokehouse maple flavored boneless chicken thighs,(Already cooked), and raw green beans. Perhaps we can warm up the chicken or eat cold, doesn't matter to me.
