The trip report

Written by Bobcat

"The weather outside was frightful but the fire was so delightful..."

We enjoyed a festive potluck feast New Year's Eve to celebrate the last evening of 2021. The menu included Spiral Ham, Salad and lots of appetizers including Buffalo Wings, Calzone, Stuffed Mushrooms, and Bacon wrapped dates.

To kick off the New Year, we hiked up Mt. Pierce. Although the mountain peaks were in the clouds, the conditions were very pleasant- mild with light winds. The sun even came out at the beginning of the hike. Beautiful snow packed trees welcomed us as we approached the summit. The trail was snow packed with minimal ice. We shared the summit of Mt. Pierce with a friendly GreyJay at lunch before heading back down. Later on, we relaxed by the woodstove and enjoyed cheese fondue and wine.

About this event

To kick off the New Year,  join us for a hike up Mt. Pierce at 10AM Saturday (Jan 1) (via the Crawford Path) - a moderate 6 mile hike round trip with 2400 foot elevation gain. (We might add on a side trip to Mizpah Hut per hiker preference.)

Prepare for winter hiking conditions- so bring/wear microspikes (possibly snowshoes), warm winter insulated boots, gloves, hat, fleece pullover, parka and lots of layers, etc. If you have any questions about preparation for hiking in the winter, please email me.

(Optional event): We also will be hosting a New Year's Eve Potluck/ Social (Friday afternoon/evening, Dec 31) at the house (Bear Pond) at Sugar Hill, NH.  If attending, please bring a food dish to share (appetizer, entree, dessert, etc.) BYOB. OK to arrive anytime Friday.

Lodging: We have enough room at the house for 8 overnight guests on Friday and/or Saturday night.. If you would like to stay overnight, please let me know. If you would like to "reserve" a specific bedroom/bed, please let me know and I will assign if available. Otherwise, beds are assigned when guests arrive.
