The trip report
Written by dnaturist
Two of us hiked this very easy section. The hike again was under a full tree canopy but did have a couple of view points.
We got started earlier on this hike and had views of the early morning mists down below.

About this event
This hike will be relatively flat with a couple of ascents and a couple descents.
At the beginning Interstate 77 can be seen down below with a view of the town of Bastin. 1/3 of a mile in and we will cross a powerline right of way, which will give us views of Round Mountain and Hunting Camp Creek Valley.
1/2 mile into the hike the AT intersects the gravel USFS road 282. The trail follows the road for a bit and then will run parallel to it separated ,by thick rhododendrons. The trail will run through thick woods as we travel near the crest of Bushy Mountain.
At 5.9 miles the trail begins its final descent of 1 mile over 10 swtchbacks on a well graded path, which makes for easy walking of the 520 foot descent.
Plan on spending 4 to 5 hours on the trail.
