About this event
Bluff Point is one of few state parks where one can combine a hike with a dip in Long Island Sound. It was the site of the 1938 hurricane that wiped out all the private cottages, but resulted in the land's dedication to public recreational use. We will hike a clockwise elliptical route from the park's parking lot, first to the picturesque "bluffs" (enjoying views from cliffs) and then to a strip of beach for (optional) swim/wade in the Sound (bring bathing suit and towel). We will then continue our clockwise elliptic course back to the parking lot. The hike is low-intensity (ideal for warm summer day) and relatively flat. It will last about two hours (excluding the time for dip in the Sound). Dogs on leash are allowed on trail, but not on beach strip. After the hike there is optional social at a local restaurant in Groton.
