The trip report

With no "YES" responses from members of Gay Outdoors, I told my sister and some friends about my plans. The friends also reserved a campsite and my sister promised to join us for some time on Saturday.

Upon setting up on Friday, my camping friends and I "hit the trails" (okay, the ADA greenway) to hunt for some geocaches before the sun set. Then had a very fun evening of dinner, games, and story telling. Saturday morning, we rented a pontoon boat and head out to find caches area the lake, one on an island! We returned to the dock at noon to pick up my sister - who, unbeknownst to me, organized a surprise birthday party for me - with about 30 of our closest geocaching friends! What a surprise!

We then headed out in the boat again; hunted for another cache or two, but concentrated on just enjoying the ride, and pulling those interested around the lake on an innertube - more fun! Saturday evening was also spent sharing more dinner, more games, and more story telling (plus some new moans and groans over sore muscles and new sunburns).

Sunday morning was spent caching some more along the greenway in the State Park and then on our way to Winchester, TN where we enjoyed some bar-be-que lunch before heading home.

I heard rumors about doing it again next year...

About this event

Yep, a Gay Outdoors event in TENNESSEE!!

Last year, I pledged to Gay Outdoors to host a camping trip in Tennessee - then went and got hired. Ugh, all my spare time became non-existent.

Now, I am planning to go camping at Tims Ford State Park, about 10 miles WNW of Winchester, TN for the weekend of June 6-8, 2014. The park "has over 27 miles of trails, including paved hiking and biking trails." Most are easy to moderate, with one that has a moderate to strenuous rating. In addition to the campground, they do have cabins available. They also have an in-ground pool. I do have a pontoon boat rented for Saturday afternoon (hence the possible "shared expense") - but at a private marina nearby, not the one in the park!

As people sign up, I hope they will express their interest in activities that might be planned - and if they any ideas and are able help organize or lead an acitivity. Being an avid geocacher, I hope to "hit the trails" (especially the greenway near the campground) and maybe offer a Geocaching 101 class (wouldn't be the first time!). Pretty sure there will be a potluck dinner on Saturday evening. Any other suggestions?

The campground has filled up quite a bit since I made my reservation several weeks ago. I have now reserved a second site (#33 and #38), so check with me before you make your reservation!
