Description: Palm Canyon Trail takes the hiker along a canyon, following a stream that wanders through groves of California fan palms. The contrasting greens of magnificent fan palms and more than 150 species of plants within the area invite the hiker to this lush oasis. Palm Canyon is a stark contrast to the usual desert-hiking trail due to the abundant vegetation that grows along the stream. One almost feels like they are in a "jungle" environment, instead of desert. After 1 mile of lush landscape, we will continue on the East Fork Trail/East Fork Loop. This trail meanders through narrow wash of the East Fork of Palm Canyon Creek with towering walls on all sides. There are views of the majestic mountains surrounding Indian Canyons. Huge patches of Teddybear Cholla and agave can be seen along the trail. There is moderate rock scrambling, but not difficult. We will continue to the Vendeventer Trail and back to Palm Canyon Trail, ending at the Trading Post.
What to Bring: Good hiking boots/shoes. A hiking/trekking pole may be useful for the occasional step ascent/descent on the trail, but not necessary. Pack a lunch, snacks and bring plenty of water. Bring a hat/cap and sunscreen.
Carpooling: Contact other members to carpool; share the conversation and travel expenses.
