About this event

Join me as we celebrate Memorial day at this beautifully remote swimming hole nesteled in the hills of western mass.

Description: Deep, small cool (but not cold) pond in river with wide sandy beach. Several smaller beaches nearby on river. Comments from a visitor: "The pool is small, but the current is usually just right to swim against. It attracts an overwhelmingly gay crowd.

I have rated this event moderate to strenuous as you must cross a river (the Westfield River) to get to the Beach. At times I have walked across the river with the water up to my ankles and then there have been other times when the river has been swift and up to my knees. There is no way to predict the depth or current for Memorial day.

The Cummington Swimming hole has been a clothing optional locale since the 1920's (as the folk lore goes) so if public nudity makes you uncomfortable please reconsider not signing up for this event. Most people here do not opt for clothing.

Rain will cancel this event.

For those not familiar with Cummington I would be willing to carpool from Northampton. The exact location in Northampton to be determined.

What to bring: bug repellant, sunscreen, water, snacks (to share with others on this event), trash bags (we will carry all our refuse out), some type of water shoe to cross the river with. the bottom of the river is rocky and very uncomfortable without shoes, walking stick to help in the crossing. Towel. This being a remote area there are no facilities here.
