Hike Painted Canyon
Awesome Weather, Cool Day, Easy Hike. Fascinating to carve in and out of the Slots.
The trip report
The trail, if you've ever done it - is one of the jewels of the Coachella Valley and Salton Sea area. Tucked away, rarely approached by the mainstream (its an hour drive from Palm Springs towards NOWHERE).
Clearly the slots are the attraction - and the unique, diverse, rock formations, embedded shells, creatures, etc.
New to us this time, was a second slot canyon, off to the RIGHT of the MAIN WASH. Its further up, than where you take a LEFT to go to the classic 3 hour hike. And its a great addition to create a longer hike, a more interesting hike.
This is why bunches of us go back month after month. Its a unique feature of the Coachella Valley.
HIKE ON!

About this event
Looking For A Few Gay HIKERS - Moderate Level - 3+ Hour Hike.
Pack-lunch HIKE is this SUNDAY DEC 12th for 3+ Hours to a SLOT CANYON an hour south of Palm Springs by the Salton Sea. (sorry, dogs can't climb ladders) Carpooling possibilities. Contact Don!
We're middle aged, active, and simply looking to get OUTDOORS more often, and meet other like-minded guys.
Meet up at trail head at 11:00 AM or carpool from Palm Springs area, bring a pack lunch, return before sunset. Trailhead (Sand Parking lot at end of Painted Canyon Road) gathering at 11:00AM - depart shortly thereafter for a few hours, including your own pack lunch.
Typically its an hour-drive (without accidents, etc.) from the Palm Springs area, to actual sand parking lot of the box canyon at end of Painted Canyon Road (several miles of sand road driving). I might have an extra seat or two (won't know until Saturday) to share 4WD ride, share gas, share sense of humour - down and back.
ARRIVE 11AM at PAINTED CANYON, Hike for an hour & half up to top of canyon - eat your PACK LUNCH etc. - then loop on back down to parking lot. Probably 3+ hours round trip actual HIKE time + driving time separate.
Reminder: this is not a club or organization - just fellow gay & gay-friendly middle-aged hikers who want company on local trails - without a personal agenda. Please search elsewhere for sexual encounters, or lighter hiking venues. We typically enjoy a good pace, over longer distances. Also be sure to pack Hiking essentials, lots-o-water, layers, and sense of humour.
