About this event

Care to be in a rustic cabin on Mt. Cardigan Halloween night?  This might be for you.  Join other fearless GO GUYS as they spend a moonlit night in the Haunted Cabin!  We will be hiking up from the Cardigan Lodge parking lot for 2.5 miles ( 1200FT gain) to High Cabin.  We will then drop our things, eat lunch and head out for a hike on the the Mt. Cardigan ledges.  We should be able to take in the main peak, Mowglis trail to Firescrew, Crag Camp Shelter, Cilleys Cave.  Once on the Elwell Trail, hike over to Mowglis & Oregon Mtn if we are feeling good.  Usually about a 4 hour round trip hiking the peaks.  Moonwalk Saturday night.   Sunday morning we can chill after breakfast and head back or take a short hike to South Peak behind the cabin.  Bring a costume to wear for the hike from the cabin.  Costume contest Saturday night, the most votes wins you a prize.  Can hike in regular clothes, but that's not fabulous, is it?  Games, chocolate, candy corn and a hot fire provided.  Bring a favorite dish & desert you can share.  Bring wine & beer.  It will be buffet style.  There is a 2 burner propane stove.  You will need a lunch Saturday & breakfast Sunday.

TRAIL HEAD:  Cardigan Lodge is located in Alexandria, north of Bristol & southwest of Newfound lake.  From 93:  Exit 23.  Take 104 West to Bristol Center, stay right, go North on 3A to Newfound Lake.  Left at flashing yellow light/church/Irish Pub.  Pass Shackets Store to Frosties Ice Cream on right.  See signs on tree for Cardigan Lodge/Cardigan Mtn Orchard straight ahead.  2 ways up the mountain:  Fowler River Road continues straight:  follow dirt road veering left onto Brook road, then right at sign to Cardigan Lodge.  Or veer left at seamstress shop and farmland to Alexandria Center, veering right around church toward library, right onto Cardigan Mtn Road.  Take this past orchard onto dirt road.  You will want to look at a map of Alexandria/Bristol.  Fom 89:  get onto route 4 to route 104 East to Bristol.  See above.

WHAT TO BRING:  Hiking gear, sleeping bag, ear plugs, warm clothing, shell/rain/wind gear, headlamp, meals, beer/wine.  I will have some plates, cook gear, water source.  No electricity .   Check weather for gear choices.  We are sheltered, with a woodstove, only heavy downpour cancels.  Prepare to party!
