Frontenac State Park

MN Hiking Club

The trip report

At the end of the long summer, I found out that the State of Minnesota has a Hiking and Passport Club where you visit all the State Parks and hike the many trails.

Once you achieve a certain number of hikes/miles and stamps for your passport book, you get a free night camping at any of the State Parks. Even though I was walking through-out the city of Minneapolis all summer long, it would have been better if I knew about these clubs and explored this great State that I have lived in for almost 25 years.

October was a very cold and snowy month for us up here in Minnesota, and warmed up very nicely the first week of November. I took a chance and decided to get my first 'official' hike and stamp at Frontenac State Park. I followed the hiking club loop which totalled about 6.6 miles.

Started off with a nice leisurely walk, stopped and enjoy some views of the Mississippi bluffs, some prairie, and through the woods. I can't wait for the spring to come back around to explore a few other parks!
