LABOR DAY HIKE IN VERMONT

Final Hike of the Season

LABOR DAY HIKE IN VERMONT

Final Hike of the Season

Details

This hike will provide the group with a variety of options depending on the weather and temperature as described herein.  A couple cars will be spotted at the trial head paring area for Little Pond on Route #9 in Woodford, VT and we will all meet at 9:30 am at the AT/LT trailhead parking lot also on Route #9 in Woodford, VT.  Once everyone has gathered, we will begin the hike heading north on the AT/LT.  In 2.1 miles, we reach Maple Hill at 2.1 miles where there are views of Bennington and Mount Anthony to the west, and views of Haystack and Mount Snow to the east. At this point, we could turn around with a total hike of 4.2 miles, or we could continue on and in another 2.3 miles we would reach Porcupine Lookout (4.4 miles from the trail head) with views to the east and south.   Again, at this point we could return around with a total hike of 8.8 miles, or we could continue on another mile taking the Little Pond Connector to Little Pond (5.4 miles from the trail head) where we could stop for a swim depending on the weather.  From there we could either return the way we came for a total hike of 10.8 miles, or we could hike the Little Pond Trail 2.5 miles back to Route #9 where we spotted the cars earlier for a total of about 8 miles.   If there is enough interest, after the hike we can stop for a meal and libations in the area and discuss the highlights of the day and make plans for another hike next year.
