Dean/Crystal Springs/Chinquapin Loop
Dean/Crystal Springs/Chinquapin Loop
Details
This is a mostly shady 7.75 mile hike that starts with a gentle downhill (Dean Trail) to warm up, then goes up to Skyline (Crystal Springs Trail), and finishes with more downhill (Chinquapin Trail) with amazing views of the redwood forest. The net elevation gain is 1,473 feet. Here is a link to my AllTrails recording.
To avoid the parking crowds I usually start from Kings Mountain Road. There is plenty of free parking and it's a small walk to the Archery Fire Road access point that easily meets up with Dean Trail.
This seemed like a great site to meet people for hiking, camping and backpacking. I joined but then realized there are no hikes posted in my area so I thought I would host one. There are many options for longer or shorter routes so I'm interested in hearing from people if they are interested in easier or more challenging hikes.
Directions
From 280, drive through Woodside and up Kings Mountain Road. Do not enter and drive past the entrance to Huddart Park parking and picnic areas. Continue up Kings Mountain Road, halfway there is a wide open parking area. This is where we will meet and walk down the road a little to the Archery Fire Road entrance to connect to the trail. Here is a Google Maps link to the parking area.
