Black Mountain via Chippewa Trail

3.6 mile roundtrip hike of Black Mountain via Chippewa Trail

Black Mountain via Chippewa Trail

3.6 mile roundtrip hike of Black Mountain via Chippewa Trail

Details

Let’s get together for a mid-week hike in New Hampshire.  In addition to views from the peak of Black Mountain, the scenic Chippewa Trail offers several views during the ascent.

The Chippewa Trail is 1.8 miles long with 1550 feet of elevation gain (about 16% average grade), so trail is somewhat steep but of moderate length.  We will return by the same trail.

We’ll eat lunch at the top of Black Mountain, so bring your lunch.  Also bring or wear layers to accommodate unanticipated temperatures.  It’s always important to bring at least 1 liter of water, rain gear, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Rain will cancel.

Directions

We will wait 10 minutes for you if you are running late; otherwise you'll have to hike on your own.

The trailhead for the Chippewa Trail is located on Lime Kiln Road in East Haverhill, NH.  If coming from NH-25, Lime Kiln Rd is located 5.2 miles west (or north) of Glencliff or 4.8 miles east (or south) of junction of NH-25 and NH-10 in Haverhill.  Head north on Lime Kiln Rd for 3.1 miles.  Watch for a major left turn at 1.4 miles (DO NOT go straight here).  The trailhead is on the right.

If coming from NH-116, Lime Kiln Rd is located in Benton.  Head south on Lime Kiln Rd for 1.8 miles.  The trailhead is on the left.
